AIA Seattle is one of the largest architectural associations in the US, with an inspiring community of members who are passionate and engaged in our changing city. AIA Seattle is seeking a Membership and Volunteer Manager to support our architect and allied members in maximizing their impact to make a difference through design. This position plays a key role in supporting and caring for our members, connecting them to one another, creating leadership opportunities and empowering AIA Seattle through member participation.

A successful Membership and Volunteer Manager will enhance member connections and commitment to AIA Seattle, support member participation and grow our membership. The ideal candidate will be people-focused, comfortable interacting with a wide range of professional members, able to balance the big picture with the details of executing plans and programs and an excellent communicator both in person and in writing.

Goals of Position

  • Increase and support member engagement and volunteerism though member committees
  • Provide outstanding service, hospitality and benefits to ensure a welcoming culture for members, allied members and guests
  • Ensure recruitment, retention and celebration of AIA Seattle members and sponsors
  • Improve membership structures and benefits

Essential Responsibilities

Engage Members and Volunteers

  • Support, enable and facilitate all committees and their interests and programs
  • Promote committee led events and activities
  • Oversee member hospitality strategies to enhance member involvement and utilization of the Center for Architecture & Design
  • Manage pathways for member involvement through committees and execute volunteer engagement strategies and orientations
  • Oversee Committee Accreditation and Annual Plan processes
  • Create member engagement opportunities for remote members
  • Support our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion work with committees and members

Recruit New Members

  • Develop and execute strategies to recruit new members and identify interested volunteers
  • Plan and execute presentations and annual visits at Member Firms and regularly communicate with Member Firm Liaisons

Retain Existing Members

  • Understand complex local and national membership structure
  • Manage Membership Steering Committee
  • Set membership retention goals and monitor progress
  • Evaluate member benefits and enhance benefits package
  • Support and promote the value of licensure
  • Manage communications for annual membership renewal campaigns

Celebrate Members

  • Plan and produce networking events, including the Annual Parti, STAMPED and President’s Dinner
  • Highlight member success through communications and recognition

  • Customer oriented, excellent people skills and enthusiasm for interaction
  • Meeting facilitation and project management skills
  • Consensus builder; diplomatic and encouraging with members and volunteers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Personable and team-oriented
  • Interest in design and architecture a plus

 Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Demonstrated success working with volunteers
  • Experience in association or membership organization highly desirable
  • Outstanding proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience in prioritizing and multi-tasking complex projects in fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders
