Established in 1996 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, Wenzlau Architects is an interdisciplinary design firm with a focus on urban design and housing solutions for growing communities. Our projects have been recognized for their careful integration into existing neighborhoods and support of long-range community plans. Recent awards include the Puget Sound Regional Council 2025 Award and a State of Washington Governors’ Award – both for Wenzlau Architects’ contribution to the Winslow Tomorrow downtown planning project for Bainbridge Island. Our firm also was awarded a grand prize in the Builder’s Choice design competition in 2012 for our Chico Beach Cottages project in Silverdale, Washington.
Whether a small cottage, multi-family residence, or mixed use project, our work incorporates abundant natural light, a clear spatial flow and a connection to the outdoors. Our flexible approach balances design considerations with budgetary needs, and reflects the individual needs of our clients.
At Wenzlau Architects, BIM takes front and center stage during project production. Building Information Modeling is a major paradigm change from the traditional CAD and 3D systems and allows us to streamline our process so that we can dedicate more time to thoughtful design, client care, and sustainable integration. This technology has enhanced our design services and added value for our clients.
Our work continuously strives to create greater harmony with our natural environment. We have a hopeful vision for the future: one of integrated, responsible design and smart growth for our communities. Working within the context of the Northwest landscape, we have developed an intimate knowledge of this unique climate, its seasonal cycles and appropriate placed-based technologies. Through optimal site orientation, materials research and energy analysis, we work to design healthy spaces both for people and the planet.
