UDF + COTE: Seattle 2100 – Sci-Fact Future – PNW
We have redeveloped this into a remote event in light of the COVID era.
A unique discussion to extrapolate from the facts and ideate around the dystopian, the utopian and perhaps, the apocalyptic. Will Seattle develop into an innovative tech-hub and climate-refuge ecotopia in an increasingly anthropogenically altered world? Or, will our future be a smoke-filled, pandemic-wary, overpopulated city, ill-equipped to face an out-of-control tomorrow.
Climatologists almost unanimously agree that we are in for fundamental changes in the long term, all skewed to the hot and extreme. In terms of pandemic mitigation, how should we rethink urbanism in light of public health, urban density and economic equity? Will COVID forever change the way we build our cities, or will pandemic fears be lost to our species’ notoriously short memory? Where do the challenges and opportunities of climate change and pandemic threats overlap or conflict?
This intriguing discussion will ideate over life in the Pacific Northwest of 2100, the potential long-term impacts of climate change and COVID and how we can prepare for our future; ideas ensuring a bright future, over one that catches us all off guard and woefully under-prepared.
