We will explore the various options and materials available and identify which types of roofing systems are best candidates for roof restoration. This course also delves into the economics and environmental benefits of roof restoration.

  • Identify sustainable roof preservation materials and methods when researching roof preservation solutions.
  • Provide multiple surface treatment possibilities available for roof restoration when writing roofing specifications.
  • Discuss multiple types of roofing systems that can successfully be preserved and restored during the evaluation of roof systems.

Understanding Air & Vapor Barrier Systems with Tremco Sealants

This session will focus on understanding Air and Vapor Barrier (AVB) systems.  Systems include an engineered membrane and spray-applied technology.  Participants will learn detailed application methods as they relate to the design of commercial buildings.  This presentation also highlights our Test Wall Facility and how the design community can utilize Tremco as a resource to validate building envelope design.

Continuous Insulation and Air Barriers for High Performance Framed Wall Assemblies with Dryvit EIFS

This program examines all IECC and IBC 2012 / 2015 code criteria that influence the design and construction of building envelope framed walls as well as the challenges associated with the integration of continuous insulation (ci) behind traditional veneer claddings such as increased wall thickness and support structure, their direct increase to cost of construction as well as the coordination of air barrier compatibility and overall code defined fire performance requirements.

Attendees will specifically learn what these code criteria are, how they affect a traditional framed wall assembly design and detailing and how continuous insulation (ci) and air barriers can be implemented into a successful, code complaint, cost effective and high performance building envelope for new or renovation construction.

Learning Objectives

  • Introduce New Energy Code and Design Standards for continuous insulation (ci) and air barriers requirements for exterior framed wall assemblies.
  • Deconstruct “perceived” value of traditional cavity insulation methods and Reconstruct new strategies for higher “effective” value of exterior continuous insulation opportunities.
  • Outline the challenges in framed wall design and detailing associated with the integration of continuous insulation (ci) behind traditional veneer cladding.

Achieving a Comprehensive Building Envelope Wall Renewal Program with Dryvit ReVyvit Renovation

Today, there is an enormous stock pile of existing, outdated and energy inefficient building – both occupied and unoccupied – which are impacting curb appeal, diminishing occupant comfort and reducing financial return.  This program will thoroughly examine and define the two (2) primary options associated with Building envelop renewal – RESTORATION vs. RENOVATION – with an understanding that projects will vary in scope, complexity and budgets.  Wither the scope of work is a simple cleaning, resealing, and recoating or a more comprehensive tear off and re-clad by virtue of deterioration beyond repair or a desire to enhance energy efficiency and / or appearance, a better understanding of the envelope renewal process and options is critical.

Learning Objectives

  • Outline reasons to pursue a building envelope renewal program such as poor energy performance/high energy costs, leaks at openings, cracks in the exterior cladding/skin, poor curb appeal, tenant or brand change, building code compliance.
  • Define an overall process and approach toward building envelope inspection, assessment, reporting and scope of work determination.
  • Review the supporting benefits of a building renewal program such as lower heating and cooling costs, occupant comfort, enhanced curb appeal, improved occupancy percentage and rental rates, increased building value.
  • Explore the differences between restoration and renovation approaches and discover continuous insulation (ci) through new cladding or forms of ci panelization that can be integrated.

Building Air Leakage and Effects on the Building Envelope with CanAm

This presentation is for architects and other design professionals interested in increasing their knowledge of the application and use of air barriers in the building envelopes of commercial and multi-family residential buildings.

Researchers, architects and code writers have shown that attention to specific details in both new and retrofitted envelopes result in better performing buildings with better comfort and longer durability. This presentation also discusses the concept of the building as a system where the impact of Building Air Leakage will affect the building’s sustainability, durability, occupant comfort, health, productivity and overall energy efficiency.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the definition of a high performance building and the importance of air and moisture management to occupants.
  • Understand the connection of the Building Envelope and the impact it has for the facilities durability, sustainability, energy efficiency, occupancy comfort/health and IAQ.
  • Understand the application differences of Air Barrier product types for new construction/major façade retrofit vs. remediation of existing buildings.
  • To understand what causes Building Air Leakage in the existing asset and how to remediate it.

An Introduction to the Canam Building Air Leakage Data Collection Tool with CanAm App

This presentation is for architects and other design professionals interested in learning about Canam’s proven process of collecting air leakage data for breaches in the building envelope.  It reviews the step-by-step methodology for gathering data points for determining where most building Air Barrier Continuity failure occurs, and is an integrated iPad cloud based data collection application. Canam’s Air Leakage APP is the portal to allow the data to be reviewed and analyzed by an experienced Building Envelope Air Leakage Assessor.  It provides a means to assist A/E professionals with TOTAL Building Envelope Assessment Reports thereby differentiating themselves from their competition.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the benefits of using the Canam Building Air Leakage Data Collection Tool as an A/E design professional.
  • How the air leakage data is collected.
  • How the Canam APP Total Building Envelope Assessment Report process works.
