Architecture in the Pacific Northwest is often defined as possessing a mastery of craft – from our vertical grain cedar to our blackened steel gizmos. Partnerships between architects and craftspeople in our region take on legendary character and often the best design provenance is collaboration between fabricator and designer. Our mastery of craft evokes strong and primal emotions that appear to ground us in tradition and in the place of our region.
Does this traditional notion of craft encompass the range and depth that our culture embodies?
How do our traditional notions of craft intersect with our modern technological trajectories?
This day of panel presentations and dialogue will explore the multiple definitions of Craft for our current work as architects and help to define directions for our future work. WhichCraft? Dialogues will engage us in dialogues exploring the question: “What do we mean by craft?”
