Working Together: Achieving Net Zero

Join PAE Consulting Engineers for Working Together: Achieving Net Zero, an AIA CES LU|HSW|SD accredited presentation. Innovative ideas for achieving Net Zero and intriguing project examples will be explored. An introduction to a new Net Zero rating scale will be presented along with challenges and financial considerations facing designers striving for Net Zero. Factors in achieving Net Zero such as building scale renewable energy systems, 75% load reduction and climate analysis will be covered. A case study of the Bullitt Center, the largest commercial Living Building currently under construction, will also be included.

Steve has more than 20 years of experience in design and assessment of mechanical systems. His background includes a wide range of facility types, from office buildings, to university classroom buildings, to high-tech manufacturing and research facilities. As a principal at PAE, Steve has extensive experience in managing project teams that include mechanical and electrical engineers as well as lighting designers and energy modelers. His LEED-registered or rated projects include the Port of Portland’s new airport headquarters, PAE’s own offices in Portland, Nike’s new childcare center, and The Nines Hotel. He also led the PAE team in renovation of the Oregon State Fair Pavilion, a SEED project. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in six states including Oregon. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional through the U.S. Green Building Council.
