Jury comment: "We found everything to admire in this design, most specifically in the integration of the interior and exterior spaces, the placement of the house in the landscape, and the selection and detailing of materials. Each interior space relates directly to a dedicated private exterior space, while the house and gardens benefit from and add to the wider landscape beyond the site. CITATION (Design Challenge):
FOOTPRINTS
Callison Architecture
Design Team: Katie Freels, Jennifer Dalley, Peter Krech
Jury comment: "We found this entry comprehensive in its address of the physical and emotional experiences of homelessness, its way of bringing special meaning to places where homeless and non-homeless people gather, and its respect for the individuals memorialized. Its form addresses the nature of transience, illustrates the relationship of our bodies to the earth, and recognizes the places of homelessness in our city. We appreciated the comments of Seattle City Councilmember Peter Steinbrueck AIA, who described this proposal as 'doable,' with its attention to the practical details of materializing such a memorial in a city busy with many concerns and projects."
