His AIA NW+Pacific Region colleagues have elected Jim Suehiro AIA to serve on the AIA national Board of Directors for a three-year term to commence in January 2006. The election took place among items of Region business conducted at the Knowledge by Design Conference in Seattle August 4-6, 2005.
In placing Jim's name in nomination, AIA Seattle President Peter David Greaves AIA wrote: "Our colleagues from across the Region have come to know Jim and to respect his leadership through his extensive professional involvement. A native of Hawaii who came to Seattle to pursue architectural studies at the University of Washington, Jim currently directs airport and transportation projects in communities throughout the Region and around the world, as a Principal at NBBJ. He has designed more than forty airports in the US and abroad, as well as additional significant public projects.
"As a member of the AIA Seattle Board of Directors which culminated in his 1998-99 term as President, Jim took an active role in AIA affairs at the local, state, region, and national level. As a founder of the AIA Seattle Diversity Roundtable, Jim helped establish a powerful vehicle for drawing people of diverse backgrounds into the profession and for honoring diverse contributions to professional excellence.
"We believe that Jim's professional stature and knowledge, his connections with colleagues across the Region, and his unique understanding of trends affecting architectural practice equip him well for effective service on the AIA Board of Directors, in ways that particularly reflect the diverse nature of our Region.
"We invite all to join us in supporting Jim's candidacy and his election at Knowledge by Design NW + Pacific Region Conference August 4-6 in Seattle, and in reliance upon his leadership for our profession."
