News: NW+P Region 2003 Honors

At the August 2003 Conference of the AIA Northwest and Pacific Region, hosted by AIA Portland, Region 2002 Medal of Honor recipient L. Jane Hastings FAIA joined Region Directors John Baker AIA and Norman Strong AIA in announcing the selection of Donald H. Lutes FAIA, of Springfield, Oregon to receive the Region Medal of Honor for 2003. Medal jury chair Jane Hastings noted of Don Lutes: "He has provided consistent and dedicated service to the profession of architecture and The American Institute of Architects at local, regional, and national levels for over forty-two years. His past and current contributions continue to impact how architects learn, practice, and participate in their communities."

Honor Awards Committee chair Kent Duffy AIA, working with a jury that also included AIA 2003 President Thompson Penney FAIA and former Vancouver BC City Councilmember Gordon Price announced projects cited in the AIA Northwest + Pacific Region's 2003 Honor Awards. The jury's selections include ten previously recognized by AIA Seattle Honor Awards for Washington Architecture, as below. For those unable to receive their award certificates in person at the Portland event, AIA Seattle President Kristen M. Scott AIA will present them at the AIA Seattle Membership Conference 9/17, at the UW/Bothell Commons.
