David J. Matthews, AIA (Seattle):
Dave is a Principal, Quality Assurance Coordinator, Technical Lead, and Project Manager for LMN Architects in Seattle. He has twenty-five years of experience with expertise in construction administration, detail design & construction documentation, forensic investigations, and remedial detailing on commercial, public, and private projects in the Pacific Northwest and for LMN projects nationally.
Dave Ricketts, P.Eng.:
Mr. Ricketts is recognized as one of the leaders in the building science field in North America. He combines a thorough understanding of building envelope theory and materials behavior with practical knowledge of construction practices and sequencing. He is the primary author of many of the key Canadian studies and guideline documents addressing moisture issues in buildings including: Best Practice Guide for Building Envelope Wood Frame Construction in the BC Lower Mainland, Study of High-Rise Envelope Performance in Coastal British Columbia, Building Envelope Rehabilitation Guide � Consultants, and most recently two studies of Water Penetration Resistance of Windows. All of these projects are directly relevant to building practices on both sides of the border.
Mike Steffen:
Mike Steffen is Quality Director at Walsh Construction Company. He is a registered architect in Oregon and California, with sixteen years experience in the design and construction of housing, mixed-use, commercial, and educational buildings. Mike has expertise in wood frame and concrete frame construction types and with a wide variety of building envelope systems utilized on those types. Walsh Construction Company is a mid-sized general contractor with offices in Seattle, Portland, and Sacramento. WCC works primarily in the housing, commercial and educational construction markets.
St�phane Hoffman:
St�phane Hoffman is a Building Science Specialist with Morrison Hershfield, one of the largest building envelope engineering company in North America. He is the Managing Principal for the Morrison Hershfield office here in Seattle. St�phane specializes in the design of building envelope systems with respect to water penetration, air leakage, vapor diffusion and thermal efficiency. His background includes a mix of structural engineering, building science and architecture. His work experience has included everything from low-rise wood frame residential construction to high-rise commercial developments with a mix of new construction, as well as rehabilitation and historic restoration projects. St�phane holds a Masters of Engineering from McGill University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Montreal. He is a licensed professional engineer in the province of British Columbia.
Don Hazleden:
Don Hazleden is widely known for his work in architecture, research and development management in the housing industry in British Columbia. In 1995 he organized the Building Envelope Research Consortium (BERC), bringing together representatives of the housing industry to develop a response to the leaky condo problem. This $2 M program has developed the new technology for building in wet climates. As its chair from 1996 to 1998 he led the AIBC Professional Development Program in setting up the Building Envelope Education Program. HouseWorks consults on building design, conducts research, performs building science investigations and conducts technology transfer projects for the building industry.
Scott Wolf, AIA
Scott Wolf is a Principal at the Miller/Hull Partnership, recipient of the 2003 AIA National Firm Award. Since its founding in 1977 Miller/Hull has received over one hundred design awards, and has been published in numerous domestic and foreign journals. Since joining the firm in 1993, Scott has been involved in many of Miller/Hull's most complex and highest profile projects, including the firm's two AIA National Honor Award winners: Olympic College Shelton and the Point Roberts Border Station.
Frank Stewart
Frank Stewart is the Product Support Services Manager for Western Wood Products Assn. in Portland, Ore. Stewart has been with the Association since 1976, providing product and technical support to lumber users throughout the world. During his quarter-century with the Association, Stewart has delivered lumber technical support to professional users and distributors in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, California, Arizona and New Mexico. Since moving to the Portland area in 1991, he has helped administer WWPA's education and product support activities. Stewart is responsible for coordinating WWPA efforts to respond to market concerns on mold on lumber. Before joining WWPA, Stewart worked in lumber retailing and construction. He holds a degree in business from Kansas State University. Stewart is a member of the International Code Council and The Construction Specifications Institute. Western Wood Products Assn. represents lumber manufacturers in the 12 Western states and Alaska. Based in Portland, Ore., the Association provides quality standards, business information and technical product support services to the lumber industry.
Mike Drorbaugh
Mike Drorbaugh is a Senior Engineered Wood Specialist in the Field Services Division of APA-The Engineered Wood Association. He began his career in the wood products industry in 1972 by working in a plywood mill while a student at the University of Oregon. He graduated with a degree in Marketing in 1975 and joined APA in 1978 as a quality auditor. In 1988 he transferred to the APA's Field Services Division. In addition to his knowledge of production, quality control and testing gained while working in producing mills, Mike has received experience and specialized training in design, application and code issues. Mike is a frequent and popular speaker and trainer in the Western U.S. and Canada. He has conducted training sessions for Washington Association of Building Officials, Oregon Building Officials Association, numerous structural engineer and architect organizations.
Brian LeVoguer
Brian obtained his degree in Architectural Technology in Montreal, Canada and his BA in Architecture at Carleton University in Ottawa. He was fortunate to have studied building science with Professors Ron Brand and Gus Handegord, both well-known experts and authors on the subject of air barriers and exterior wall design. Brian began his career as a Technical Sales Representative for Bakor Inc of Toronto, Canada and assisted architects and contractors in the proper design and application of integrated building envelope systems including the integration of air barriers with roofing and waterproofing systems. He worked with and learned from local consultants such as Morrison Hershfield and Rick Quirouette, both world renown building science firms. Many of Brian's details are considered "best-practice" and have been used in government sponsored building practice guides. Brian is now the General Sales Manager of Henry Company's Building Envelope Systems� Division.
Mr. Rick Hart, EuroLine Windows Inc.
Mr. Hart is EuroLine's Technical Sales Coordinator, responsible for technical and design aspects of product applications. Mr. Hart has close to 30 years experience in different areas of the architectural glazing industry, including performance-based design/build projects in commercial, industrial and residential applications. He is strongly committed to improving the industry through education and consultation with professionals involved in all different aspect of the building industry.
Bob Mitchell
Bob has been an estimator with Pioneer Masonry Restoration Company since 1997, after having served 23 years in the field. He is a nationally certified instructor for the International Masonry Institute and is a part time instructor for the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Bob teaches apprentice training for the masonry restoration trade a.k.a. � PCC (Pointer Caulker Cleaner).
Duane Jonlin
Duane is a lead technical architect for NBBJ with twenty years experience in detailing, specifying and integrating building technology. Duane is an active member of the AIA and the Construction Specifications Institute and is an expert on issues of accessibility, energy use, and code applications. He has lectured locally on accessibility regulations and energy code compliance. He has recently served on several code-related task forces, including Seattle City Light's Commercial Incentives Program review, the Seattle Energy Code review process and Seattle's Project Lift-Off for the reform of child care regulations. His experience includes a wide range of government and institutional building types, including health care, justice, transportation and children's facilities.
