NIAUSI and AIA Seattle Joint Fellowship for Travel and Research in Italy

AIA Seattle and the Northwest Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in Italy (NIAUSI) have joined forces to create an exciting fellowship opportunity for architects.

Since 1985, NIAUSI has provided Fellowships for Northwest professionals in the art and design fields to pursue individual research and projects in Italy. For 2012, in addition to NIAUSI’s traditional Fellowship programs, AIA Seattle and NIAUSI are collaborating to offer a Fellowship exclusively for members of the AIA Seattle community.

The NIAUSI/AIA Seattle Fellowship in Italy will provide a one month stay in one of the restored medieval houses maintained by NIAUSI at its “Civita Institute” facilities in the ancient hill town of Civita di Bagnoregio, located north of Rome. As part of the Fellowship, recipients will be granted a $1,000 stipend.

This joint Fellowship will provide the selected Fellow with an extraordinary “home base” in central Italy – a region that is rich in architectural history, art, culture and urban spaces. The successful applicant will be chosen by a jury based on a project proposal designed to explore issues relevant to the built environment of the Pacific Northwest.

APPLY NOW

NIAUSI/AIA Seattle applicants may simultaneously apply for NIAUSI’s 2012 Fellowships, using a single form. The joint NIAUSI/AIA Seattle Fellowship application will be open to all current members of AIA Seattle who are licensed architects and have completed a minimum of seven years’ work in the profession. Applicants for the NIAUSI-only Fellowships do not have these same requirements, but are asked to refer to the application materials for a full explanation of criteria for all of the NIAUSI Fellowship programs.

Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2011. For more information about the Fellowships, the NIAUSI facilities in Italy and to link to the Fellowships application page, please click here.
