Oh, The Places We'll See
Attendees at the AIA Northwest + Pacific Region Case Study Conference, August 4-6 will get an insider's ticket to some of the coolest spaces in The Emerald City.
The Wednesday evening Opening Reception (thanks to sponsor Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors) at Seattle Central Library sets the tone for Knowledge by Design, with a first-hand experience of a singular urban building – Time's #1 among Best Architecture of 2004, the subject of intense professional and public buzz and extensive media coverage before and since its opening in September 2004.

In the heart of downtown Seattle and steps away from the city's finest hotels, restaurants, and retail, the Washington State Convention & Trade Center houses knowledge plenary and education sessions, as well as the Trans-Pacific Trends Trade Show and Friday's design book-signing event. Within easy walking distance from the Convention Center, visitors can enjoy the Pike Place Market and other sites of the Conference's special events.
On Thursday night, visitors and the home-town crowd will put on dancing shoes and head to fun and funky Consolidated Works at South Lake Union – the Pacific Northwest's only multi-disciplinary contemporary arts center. Get set for a rockin' good time with a variety of bands featuring architect musicians! The bands: Buddha Blue, Creeping Time, DeadLoad, Six of One.
Friday night August 5 (thanks to sponsors Swenson Say Fagét and Reprographics NW) takes the Knowledge by Design crowd to Seattle's sparkling central waterfront and jaw-dropping Pacific vistas from Bell Harbor International Conference Center. The site of the Conference keynote by Jim Glymph FAIA and presentation of Region Awards, Bell Harbor also offers sweeping views of Elliot Bay, Mount Rainier and the Seattle skyline.

The Conference wraps up Saturday, August 6, at the 111th Birthday Progresssive Party, and the Knowledge by Design Case Study Prize Presentation, at the Polson Building. Bassetti Architects, Mahlum Architects and The Miller|Hull Partnership, all located here in Seattle's trendy West Edge neighborhood, open their offices for a festive affair – coordinated by our colleagues at SDA Seattle. Congratulate recipient(s) of the Knowledge by Design Case Study Prize. Some special surprises mark the 111th anniversary of Daniel Burnham's 1894 signing of the charter for AIA in Seattle. Don't miss the fun!
