AIA Seattle / Northwest Home + Garden Homes of the Year

March 23, 2006, 4-6pm at AIA Seattle

Memorializing a remarkable first year of partnership with Northwest Home + Garden magazine, AIA Seattle offers "Homes of the Year," a quiet retrospective look at the architects, houses and homeowners of the Open House program, featured in each issue of Northwest Home + Garden. In March at AIA Seattle Gallery, participating architects offer display boards illustrating the projects selected by the Open House committee, chaired by AIA Seattle Allied Member Ed Sozinho of Pro Image Photography, and generously featured in each edition of the magazine.

"It's been a terrific first year working with editor Shannon O'Leary and the enthusiasm of the NWHG staff," remarks Sozinho. "Awareness of the program among Seattle-area architects appears to be on the rise; I think the high quality and detail of the magazine feature has convinced a lot of architects to submit their work and made them confident it will receive the attention it deserves. The program is very fortunate to have such a collaboration with a magazine that produces beautifully photographed and well-written features on each Open House project."

Gene Zema, architect of the very first Home of the Year in 1954, recently visited AIA Seattle and offered original illustrations from his own archives. The boards, including those from Gene, will appear on display at AIA Seattle Gallery for the entire month of March, culminating in a small reception for NWHG and AIA Seattle staff, the AIA Seattle Board and the submitting architects, homeowners, contractors and other colleagues.
