The AIA Firm Award
What It Means to Receive It:
Miller|Hull & ZGF
Beginning in 1962 with recognition of the firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the AIA has presented the Architecture Firm Award to honor a practice that has consistently produced distinguished architecture for at least a decade.
In December 2002, the AIA Board of Directors announced selection of Seattle-based Miller|Hull to receive the 2003 Firm Award. The roster of previous recipients includes one other Northwest practice, ZGF, recognized in 1991 (Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership). Both Pennsylvania-based Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, named in 1994, and Gensler, named in 2000, have since opened local offices.
The Council has invited luminaries from Miller|Hull and ZGF to share with their local colleagues their reflections and observations about the meaning of the award to them and to the rest of the design community, in an informal session.
We urge Fellows/Honors Council members to bring young architects and colleagues as their guests, to share the inspiration and experience of this presentation.
Cordially,
Roger Williams FAIA
President, Fellows/Honors Council
