Betty Wagner has given over half a century of service to the profession as Librarian to the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Washington. Her tenure began some years before the 1957 establishment of the College, and has continued as the form of design education and practice, and the nature of knowledge supporting it, has grown and changed.
Her perspective on architecture education and practice, in memory and into the present, brings unique insights. Click here to review a 1996 interview with Betty, part of the University of Washington's observance of her 45th anniversary with the College Library.
Literally thousands of architecture students have come to know Betty and to rely on her knowledge in their student years – and often after that as well. Many of them have acknowledged her influence with contributions to the Betty L. Wagner Endowed Library Enrichment Fund at the College. Her colleagues welcomed Betty as an AIA Seattle Honorary Member in 1994.
We urge Fellows/Honors Council members to bring young architects and colleagues as their guests, to share the inspiration and experience of this presentation.
Cordially,
Roger Williams FAIA
