the 18th Annual DESIGN DIALOG:
Changing Client Expectations & Design/Build
vs.
Design Studio Culture
This year's Design Dialog occurs as a part of a Region-wide Conference of The American Institute of Architecture Students, in the greater Seattle area April 11-13. It draws together individuals from design education and practice, with a national perspective as well as local connections.
Featured Panelists:
• Robin Ellerthorpe FAIA, Chair of the 2002 AIA Convention Advisory Committee. Robin Ellerthorpe's obsession with expanded practice has contributed to the success of his division, OWP/P Consultants, a diverse team performing cross-market services within a firm of 360 people. Using his architecture and engineering degrees-coupled with knowledge gained in the design/construction environment of TVA-Robin has forged a vision of integration and diversity in architecture. As business developer for CRSS and Ellerbe Becket, Robin also gained skills in client relationships, strategic thinking, and market definition that have contributed to that vision.
• Charles E. Hamlin, Managing Director, AIA Communications. Chuck Hamlin has management responsibility for AIA's public outreach: national advertising, media relations, and honors and awards programs, as well as Member communications (AIArchitect and the member and public web sites at www.aia.org). The process of market research connected with the ongoing development of AIA's national advertising program has uncovered some important findings about client perceptions and expectations of architects and their services, relevant to this topic.
• Matthew R. Herb, President AIAS. A 2001 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Matt Herb pursued studies in business and architecture. Previously as President of the AIAS chapter at his school, he focused on cultivating future student leaders and empowering students to work for change. While a full-time student, he worked between semesters at Gensler-New York and Parette, Somjen and Associates in New Jersey. He currently resides in Washington, DC and works full time in the AIAS national office at the AIA headquarters building.
• Moderators:
Patrick Gordon AIA (Principal, ZGF)
