Amy Portz AIA

AIA Seattle Special Director 2004-05

Associate at NBBJ Design since 1998. BArch, Iowa State University 1996. LEED™ Accredited Professional. AIA involvement includes AIA National Associates Committee (1999-2000), AIA Iowa Convention Committee (1996), and AIA Seattle Continuing Education Committee. Current community service includes Sunrise Heights Neighborhood Association Executive Officer, Seattle Neighborhood Block Watch Captain, and 34th District Democrats Precinct Committee Officer. During the past eight years of professional practice I enjoyed growing involvement in the AIA. Through my experience with local and national committees I see the positive effects successful planning within the organization has on developing our profession.

In 1999 I was one of five chairs appointed to the AIA National Associates Committee. The charge of this committee is to represent Associate AIA Members to the AIA national Board of Directors. Through this committee I helped establish a structure for direct representation for associates from the regional level to the national level. The new structure acknowledges the diverse goals of associate member and creates an avenue for policy change. Through this effort, Associate representation has increased, and as a result the AIA has expanded benefits to Associate AIA Members.

Associate AIA Members are the future of our profession. As a Board member, I will continue to look for ways young architects and interns can influence the organization and our profession. As a recently registered architect, I have a strong understanding of the needs of the associate member and will advocate for opportunities to enhance the professionals of the future.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve AIA Seattle.
