John Mahlum FAIA received his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and the MSArch from Columbia University.
As Principal of Mahlum & Nordfors McKinley Gordon and later Mahlum Architects, he commanded a distinguished portfolio in institutional facility design, including projects for many of the major educational and health services organizations of the Puget Sound region.
A qualified Value Engineer, John Mahlum served the community as member and chair of the Seattle Planning Commission and a member of the Board of the North Seattle Community College Foundation. President of AIA Seattle in 1979, he became a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1983. He served as a Trustee of the Seattle Architectural Foundation, and on the University of Washington Department of Architecture Professional Advisory Council.
