Design and Energy Efficiency Initiative

Intent: To delegate a committee selected from the PIAs to help the national leaders develop the National Energy Policy for Building and Design Standards
Text of Resolution:
WHEREAS the population of the United States is expected to continue to rely on fossil fuel energy as its primary source;
WHEREAS present use of such fuels are critical to our well being yet continue to degrade the environment and our quality of life;
WHEREAS the health, safety and welfare of the general public is the foundation of the profession of architecture WHEREAS, the design, construction and operation of buildings are a primary consumer of energy and the AIA is the leader of the design profession and
WHEREAS architects have the knowledge to make a significant contribution to the conservation of energy through good design while increasing the quality of life
BE IT RESOLVED that the AIA supports a program of national initiatives that will improve the energy efficiency and capital investment of our infrastructure and the preservation through good design and construction practices and alternative energy sources;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the AIA makes itself available to the President and Congress of the United States of America to immediately assist in developing the architecture and urban design conservation standards to provide the American public with safe, efficient and beautiful structures and urban realm while relieving stress on our energy supply.
