Two Local Architects Elevated to National College of Fellows

Seattle-area Architects Receive National Honor

The American Institute of Architects, based in Washington DC, has announced the election of three architects from Seattle to the AIA College of Fellows. Election to the College recognizes achievements of national significance in advancing the architectural profession. Among 134 individuals advanced in 2010, the Jury of Fellows selected these three AIA Seattle-area nominees:

Susan Jones FAIA of atelierjones

Leslie Moldow FAIA of Perkins Eastman

Each of these new fellows stands out not only for the quality of their design, but also for their desire to use architecture to improve our communities and environment.

“This is a huge, humbling honor”, said Susan Jones FAIA of Atelier Jones. “Thank you to the community of architects that nominated, sponsored and supported me. But I felt I immediately needed to go back to work, so as to really earn this tremendous recognition!”

“I feel honored to be elevated to the College of Fellows for my endeavors to improve design for seniors,” said Leslie Moldow FAIA. “I am thankful to many who worked collaboratively with me. My submission is a snapshot of what will continue to be my life’s work.”

Out of a membership of more than 84,000, there are fewer than 2,600 AIA members distinguished with the honor of fellowship. It is conferred on architects with at least 10 years of membership in the AIA who have made significant contributions in the following areas: the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession; the standards of architectural education, training, and practice; the building industry through leadership in the AIA and other related professional organizations; advancement of living standards of people through an improved environment; and to society through significant public service.

The new Fellows, who are entitled to use the designation "FAIA" following their names, will be invested in the College of Fellows at the 2010 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in Miami on June 11. Friends and colleagues will join new Seattle –area Fellows and other honorees in celebration at the AIA Seattle Honors Dinner June 19 in downtown Seattle.
